Mrs. Githa Shankar, Founder of The Brigade Schools, Bengaluru (JP Nagar, Mahadevapura and Malleshwaram)
Whether in teaching methods or learning environments, innovative practices lead to more
dynamic, engaging, and effective schooling. They encourage new ways of thinking, which in turn foster creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving among students. Innovation also inspires both educators and learners to research, question, and explore the world beyond textbooks, using every available tool to discover and create.
In today’s fast-evolving world, every parent aspires to provide their children with an education that goes beyond rote learning—one that equips them to think independently, act responsibly, and adapt to change. Amidst the many schools under the CBSE umbrella in Bengaluru, The Brigade Schools distinctly shine as pioneers of this vision. Their forward-thinking approach to both teaching and learning has created an environment where innovation is not just encouraged but embedded into the very fabric of the school culture.
We at the EDex Awards are proud to honour The Brigade Schools with the title of Top CBSE School in Bengaluru 2025 for their outstanding commitment to nurturing students who are academically sound, emotionally intelligent and future-ready.
An Overview of The Brigade Schools
When asked about the inspiration behind The Brigade Schools, Mrs. Githa Shankar, Founder of the institutions, reflects on a deeper purpose rooted in giving back to society. This led to the formation of the Brigade Foundation, ingrained in education, health, and community development. What began as a vision in 2003 soon materialized into reality, with the first Brigade School opening its doors in JP Nagar in June 2004.
Now with three fully operational branches in JP Nagar, Mahadevapura and Malleshwaram, Mrs. Shankar envisions a progressive and holistic path forward for the next five years. She emphasises that schools today must go beyond traditional academics. “We are not just educators anymore— we often step into the roles of caregivers, especially since many young parents are working and may not always be available for their children.” While maintaining academic excellence remains a priority, the schools also focus on building life skills, shaping behaviour, and cultivating the right attitude among students.
In today’s age of digital saturation, Mrs. Shankar believes that education must address the responsibilities of the virtual world as well. “We want our students to understand that their online actions have real-world consequences—they are permanent and traceable,” she notes.

Foundations of Success
When asked what defines the success of The Brigade Schools, Mrs. Githa Shankar shared that happiness is at the heart of it—but it’s closely tied to attitude and behaviour. The school strongly discourages bullying and instead fosters empathy, teamwork and mutual support among students. Mrs. Shankar underlined that success is never achieved in isolation; it requires collaboration between parents, schools and the community.
Regarding expansion plans, Mrs. Shankar expressed a clear commitment to quality over quantity. While there’s no intention to grow rapidly, she believes that with around 5,000 students currently, the school can maintain its core value that “every child matters,” something she feels could be lost with larger numbers.
Finally, addressing parents and educators, she raised a vital concern about the rising influence of social media and early exposure to risks like substance abuse. She urged adults to stay aware of the evolving world children inhabit, to understand the language they use, and to actively engage with them in order to guide and support them effectively.
