India’s festive season is set to bring a major hiring boost as Meesho expects to create 10 lakh seasonal jobs across its seller and logistics ecosystem. The e-commerce marketplace is preparing for a sharp rise in consumer demand during the upcoming festive shopping period, with sellers and logistics partners expected to expand their workforce to manage higher order volumes.

The company said the projected employment generation will include around 6.5 lakh jobs across its seller network and approximately 3.75 lakh roles in logistics operations. The hiring push highlights how India’s festive shopping season is becoming an important source of temporary employment across e-commerce, retail, warehousing and delivery.

Meesho to generate 10 lakh seasonal jobs

According to Meesho, nearly 1.3 lakh sellers are expected to hire seasonal workers as they prepare for increased festive demand. These workers will support several stages of the supply chain, including packaging, manufacturing, production, warehousing and inventory management.

The hiring will allow sellers to build inventory ahead of major shopping periods, introduce new products and expand their festive collections. For smaller businesses operating through online marketplaces, the festive season can be a crucial period for increasing sales and reaching new customers.

Key areas expected to see seasonal hiring include:

  • Packaging and manufacturing
  • Production and inventory management
  • Warehousing operations
  • Delivery and last-mile logistics
  • Order sorting and processing
  • Delivery centre operations
  • Supervisory roles

Logistics operations to see strong hiring

A significant share of the 10 lakh seasonal jobs is expected to come from logistics. Meesho’s logistics platform Valmo, along with its third-party logistics partners, will increase capacity to handle the anticipated rise in orders during the festive period.

The logistics workforce will include delivery personnel, sortation workers, delivery centre staff and supervisors. With online shopping typically witnessing a major jump during the festive period, companies need additional workers to ensure orders are processed and delivered on time.

For workers, seasonal roles can provide short-term earning opportunities during a period when demand for frontline and operational manpower rises significantly.

Festive shopping drives employment demand

The announcement comes at a time when e-commerce and other consumer-facing industries are preparing for a busy festive season. Recruitment and staffing companies are also expecting strong demand for temporary and gig workers this year.

Adecco India has estimated that temporary and gig hiring during the 2026 festive season could generate around 2.5 lakh to 2.7 lakh jobs across the organised sector, with e-commerce, logistics, quick commerce, organised retail and BFSI among the key hiring sectors.

Separately, industry estimates suggest festive temporary recruitment could rise by 8-25% compared with last year as businesses prepare for higher consumer spending. E-commerce and logistics companies are expected to remain among the leading contributors to seasonal hiring.

Opportunity for sellers and workers

The expected Meesho seasonal jobs are not limited to traditional corporate employment. A large portion of the opportunities will be created within the wider seller and logistics ecosystem.

For sellers, hiring additional workers can help them increase production, maintain sufficient stock and process a higher number of orders. For workers, seasonal employment can provide an opportunity to earn additional income during the peak shopping period.

This model also shows the wider economic impact of e-commerce. When customer demand increases, the benefits can extend beyond online platforms to manufacturers, small businesses, packaging units, warehouses, delivery partners and frontline workers.

Tier-II and Tier-III cities could benefit

Festive e-commerce demand is increasingly spreading beyond India’s biggest metropolitan areas. Smaller cities and towns are becoming important markets for online shopping, creating additional requirements for fulfilment and delivery infrastructure.

This trend can help generate seasonal work opportunities closer to where people live rather than concentrating employment only in major urban centres. The growth of e-commerce logistics networks has already increased the importance of smaller cities in India’s digital commerce ecosystem.

Meesho prepares for festive demand

For Meesho, the upcoming festive season will be an important period for its sellers and logistics partners. The company expects the additional workforce to help businesses manage the increase in orders while maintaining operational efficiency.

“The festive season continues to create meaningful economic opportunities across the ecosystem,” Meesho said, highlighting the role of sellers and logistics partners in creating jobs across India.

The company’s projection of more than 10 lakh seasonal job opportunities underlines the scale of employment that can be created when millions of consumers increase their online purchases during India’s festive shopping season.

As businesses prepare their inventory and logistics networks, seasonal hiring is likely to remain a major part of the e-commerce industry’s preparations. For workers looking for temporary employment, the festive period could therefore bring opportunities across delivery, warehousing, packaging, production and other operational functions.
